Designing your Kid's Mural, Steps 3-6
Step 3
Make a simple layout sketch of your mural. Elements such as animals can be
stick figures or just circles with labels. The purpose is to get the composition
right. Consider where the room furniture is going to be and think about any
furniture that may be added in the next couple of years.
Step 4
Make at least one color sketch showing more details. You can use colored
pencils. Make separate practice renderings of important elements such as
animals, cars or people. The more you practice this stage the better the finished
mural will look.
Step 5
Use reference pictures. Google Images is a great source. So are kid's
illustration books and wildlife coffee table books. Of course you should also
check out my web site. Once youíve found some good references you can
change shapes, colors, facial expressions or layouts. Do whatever it takes to
make your kid’s mural unique and full of your own personality.
Step 6
Paint at least one scaled rendering before you start the actual mural. Just as
in step four, the more time you spend at this the better your mural will be.
